The Owatonna Girls Hockey team has had four games this season. The team has started out the season very well with a record of 3-2. The team pulled through for their fifth game against Apple Valley on Dec. 5 with a score of 2-1.The girls hockey team is moving forward with confidence for the rest of the season.

Hockey takes hard work, leadership and teamwork. These skills are seen in everyone but especially noticed in captains. This seasons captains were elected in the beginning of the season by their teammates. The captains for this year are seniors: Rilee Schmidt, Margo Achterkirch and Jamie Davison. Schmidt said, “Our coaches make hockey more enjoyable by letting us play our own game, altering practice to fit our needs and always making sure we’re doing okay.” The team is lead by coaches Dan Paur and Joel Tornell. Their new coach Dan Paur is said to be dedicated in leading the team to get prepared mentally and physically for game days. Coach Tornell is going on his 19th season of hockey. Tornell loves the game, the relationship with the players and watching them get better over their careers are what keeps him coming back. Tornell said, “It is great to see former players giving back by coaching and getting involved in the communities where they live.” The OHS Girls Hockey Team next game will be on Dec. 7 in Albert Lea at 7 p.m.
