The Owatonna Boys Basketball Team started out their season with a offensive push against the Albert Lea Tigers on Dec. 9. winning with a score of 85-48. The Huskies followed their first game with a loss to the Northfield Raiders on Dec. 12 at home.

Seniors are hopefully for a successful season. Senior captain Alex Raichle, when asked on his thoughts for the season, said, “The season has been good so far. Coming off a tough loss to the Northfield Raiders, we feel like we can bounce back.” The team’s success has been in part due to the strong leadership on the team.

The leadership for this team has already begun to show itself for this 2017-2018 season. The Huskies have a new set of captains, all of which are experienced returning players. When asked about this season, senior captain Nolan Malo said, “I am really impressed by how well we are defending against other teams so far, but I feel that do to such a late start, because of the football season, we haven’t had the chance to get in to our rhythm of shooting.” Malo has been a solid shooter and overall player in past years for the Huskies. The team has been working really hard in practice to become the best team they can be. Head coach Josh Williams had this to say when asked about this season, “It’s been a decent start to our season. I love the effort and energy our kids have been playing with, especially on the defensive end of the floor. Our captains and seniors in general have been exceptional leaders so far in their work ethic, positivity, and drive everyday in practice to get better. We are looking forward to a great season.”

The Huskies plan on doing well in the Big 9 this season. Their next game is tonight, Dec. 15 in Winona against the Winhawks at 7:30 p.m. Also the Huskies host a top notch Apple Valley Eagles on Thursday Dec. 21. Go support the Huskies!
