Ms. Karen Martinez
Ms. Karen Martinez is one of the many new teachers joining the OHS staff this year. Ms. Martinez is an ELL teacher and this is in her first year of teaching. She attended college at Mankato State University where she got her bachelor’s degree. While making the step into choosing to go into teaching, Ms. Martinez said, “Going through school, I had some teachers who really inspired me to be who I was, so I just really wanted to be that inspiration for kids in the future.”
Before becoming a teacher at the OHS, Ms. Martinez student taught with Mr. Joel Tornell, as well as at a few other schools including Wilson Elementary, Mankato East High School and TCU in Montgomery, Minnesota. When asked what her favorite subject in school was, she said, “I feel like they were all my favorite, except math. I had a really hard time with Math, but other than that I enjoyed Science, Social Studies and English. I just really enjoyed coming to school.” When Ms. Martinez has free time, she enjoys spending her time reading books, watching movies (especially horror movies) and enjoys traveling.
