Girls cross country races to the finish

The Owatonna Girls Cross Country team is off to a great start with their season.The team’s bond is unshakable both on and off the course. The team participates in a multitude of team bonding activities throughout the season. Some of the team bonding activities include a midnight mile, mile mates and spaghetti suppers. Senior Captain Kinzie Williams said, “I’m very sad to be leaving this year, it’s a very good team bonding sport.” With many new middle school kids joining, they are really affecting the team positively. The top athlete for the team this season is first year runner, seventh grader Carsyn Brady. Her personal record for the season is a substantial 19.06 minutes for 5,000 meters.
Some of the teams toughest competitors in the Big Nine include Rochester Century and Mankato West. Coach Mr. Dan Leer said, “The girls have been making good middle of the season strides. They’ve been going hard in practice and it’s been paying off as they are now seeing time drops.” The team’s strongest meet was in Bloomington, they placed sixth with a top ten finisher. The team has a big nine conference meet at 3:30 p.m. on Tuesday, Oct. 16, and they will host the section meet at 3 p.m. on Thursday, Oct. 25.
