Senior captain Cody Bussert hits a forehand during his match

The OHS Boys Tennis Team is just beginning their season. After battling the weather last season, requiring them to play indoors at the West Hills Tennis Center for the first multiple matches, the team has had success in practicing outdoors so far. As the weather permits, the goal is to continue practicing and playing outdoors.

With two wins down, the team is hopeful to continue to dominate on the court. The team began their matches last week, and went head-to-head with Burnsville on Friday, April 5, winning 7-0. They then faced Albert Lea on Tuesday, April 9 and won 7-0. Junior Captain Ethan Engle’s advice to his teammates always involves a spiel about giving it your all. He said, “Go out and have fun, because that’s why we play.” The team is led by senior captains Cody Bussert,  Spencer Intress and Zach Noyce, and junior captain Ethan Engle.

My advice to players is to give full effort, display good sportsmanship and have a positive attitude.

— Head Coach Curt Matejcek

Head Coach Curt Matejcek has coached the team for 22 years. Matejcek said, “ I’m most excited to see the growth and development of all players, both junior varsity and varsity levels.”  The team has a strong returning lineup transferring from last season. Varsity returners include sophomores: Lincoln Maher and Caleb Schuler, and juniors: Engle, Evan Huemoeller, Brendan Kath and Leo Gantert, and seniors: Bussert, Intress and Noyce.
