On April 5, 2019, Khalid released his second album, Free Spirit. Khalid is an American singer and songwriter who made his debut in 2016 with his hit single, Location. Since then, Khalid has stayed relevant with singles like, Love Lies and Lovely, and he is popular among the younger generations. Senior Mason Oland said, “I’ve always enjoyed Khalid’s music, and it’s inspiring how young he is too.” Khalid’s first album, American Teen, was released March 3, 2017, and went double platinum as well as receiving many nominations for awards, including a Grammy.

Sometimes, Free Spirit spits out an overproduced pop melody, mathematically perfect and perfectly dull.

Free Spirit was long awaited by fans of Khalid everywhere, as it had been over a year since the rising star’s debut album. Along with the 57 minutes of music, fans received a short film on Youtube the same day of its release. The short movie was made as an extra piece to show his life experiences and the journey he has had finding himself. The album received mixed reviews, with most people claiming it did not have the same originality as his first. Wren Graves from consequenceofsound.net said, “Sometimes, Free Spirit spits out an overproduced pop melody, mathematically perfect and perfectly dull.” While the album lacks some of the creativity of his first, Khalid still put out an enjoyable album that highlights his, what many may describe as genreless, style in many places.

Khalid will be on tour this summer and is coming to Minnesota on July 23, 2019, at the Xcel Energy Center. He will be performing alongside singer-songwriter Clairo throughout the tour. Tickets, as well as meet and greet upgrade packages, are available for purchase now online on websites like Ticketmaster and StubHub.
