Har Mar Superstar has been in the music scene for around 20 years now, pulling audiences and fans in with his often upbeat and groovy music, as well as an electrifying live presence. According to his IMBD page, he has been in nearly 20 different movies and television shows (Pitch Perfect, Starsky and Hutch), appeared on Jimmy Kimmel, sold many records internationally and won the NME Rock n’ Roll man of the year in 2004. Needless to say, Har Mar Superstar is an internationally known music artist and actor. He also grew up in Owatonna, Minnesota.

Throughout high school, as an aspiring artist, he wanted to get out of Owatonna. However, now that he is older, he has had a change of heart. He said, “When I was in high school here all I wanted to do was escape. Now when I come back I appreciate Owatonna for what it truly is. A solid community with everything you need to become the best at whatever you choose to be.”

Owatonna has wanted him in town for a show for multiple years and Har Mar Superstar has wanted to perform a show for multiple years, but there hasn’t been an adequate venue in which Har Mar Superstar could perform. A concert in the grandstand almost happened five years ago, but sadly fell through. Once Har Mar Superstar’s manager heard about Mark Woodrich’s plan to open the Music Space of Owatonna a year ago, there was hope for him to finally have a show in Owatonna.

This year, the Owatonna Chamber of Commerce is continuing their tradition of “Downtown Thursdays,” and the first one is on June 6, which is the last day of school for students in Owatonna. With the help of  Woodrich from the Music Space of Owatonna, the first downtown Thursday of the summer will feature Owatonna’s own Sean Tillmann, known on stage as Har Mar Superstar.

Now the time has come for Har Mar Superstar to return to his hometown for a concert. He said, “Playing Owatonna is a big deal to me because this is where I started forming bands and playing music in public. We used to practice in our parents’ basements, rent out the VFW, park chalets to put on shows and dream big about going on tour.” Har Mar Superstar has been looking for a place to play in town for a while and is ecstatic to finally have a concert set up. He has credited part of the show being set up to Woodrich, who has been following Har Mar Superstar’s musical career since his beginning. Woodrich said, “The timing was perfect. I’ve been trying to do this for 20 years.” Woodrich believes the town wants Har Mar Superstar here now more than ever.

He has listed a few musical inspirations to be “Dead Kennedys,” “Public Enemy,” “Johnny Cash” and “Prince.” He credits part of his success towards the many supportive families that have let him run wild and be creative with his art form. Har Mar Superstar said, “I feel like Owatonna supports me a great deal. I run into people from town all over the country when I’m out touring.”

He sees Owatonna as a great place to grow up and make a life. He is excited to return the love and perform a free show as well as hopefully pave the way and inspire others to follow a musical path.

Har Mar Superstar’s homecoming

Owatonna’s Downtown Thursday that features Har Mar Superstar’s performance will kick off at 5 p.m. on June 6, 2019, on the block of 200 North Cedar Avenue in downtown Owatonna. However, Har Mar Superstar will hit the stage at 7 p.m. The Har Mar Superstar performance will also be free. Woodrich has put a fair amount of emphasis on the event being family friendly. Woodrich said, “All ages are certainly encouraged to come. Let’s say there are parents in their 30s or 40s, who have young kids, who have seen him before. They can feel safe in bringing their kids.” There will be shops open and special deals in a number of shops.

There is excitement brewing around Owatonna for what is sure to be an incredibly fun and enjoyable performance. This concert marks the international star’s first show in Owatonna since his teenage years and he is more than excited to return.
