Ms. Bird

OHS welcomes Ms. Rachael Bird as the new EL Teacher/Equity Coach this year. Bird attended the University of Wisconsin- Madison and Minnesota State University, Mankato, where she graduated with a Master’s degree in teaching. She started her teaching career in Maplewood, Minn., moved to Eagan, Minn. and spent the last five years at Wilson Elementary School in Owatonna. Wilson said, “I actually went to OHS myself. I’m from Owatonna. I went to McKinley when I was little, and I graduated from the high school in 2007.” Coming back to Owatonna was also a chance for her to move closer to family.

In Ms. Bird’s free time, she loves to travel, read, cook and do yoga. She also loves to travel and learn about different people’s culture. Ms. Bird studied abroad in Germany during her sophomore year in high school. In college, she studied in Argentina and taught in Abu Dhabi, UAE. Bird said, “I love to learn about different languages, cultures and people.” Ms. Bird is very excited to see kids grow this year.
