The Owatonna Huskies Football team is off to an outstanding start with a 6-0 winning streak after beating state-ranked Mankato West on Oct. 4, with a final score of 24-20. The Huskies have continued their campaign through the Big 9 Conference, knocking off opponent after opponent. The Huskies have clinched the Big 9 Southeast Red Division after New Prague ended Rochester Century’s four-game winning streak, leaving them with a distant record of 4-2. This is the second year in a row the Huskies have clinched the Big 9 and been given a first-round bye for the section playoffs.

We have been tested a couple of times, it’s been fun to watch our guys rise to the occasion and find a way to win a couple of tight games

— Head coach Jeff Williaims

The Huskies 36 seniors on the team allow everyone to have some depth behind them and allow players to catch their breath if needed. Coming off the 2018 State Championship, the team also retained 15 starting players, allowing them to have momentum over the younger opponents starting this season. When asked how the team fought through the nail-biting victory over Mankato West, senior captain Isaiah Noeldner said, “We work together well and focus on the goal ahead of us. We know what needs to be done, so we do it.” The Huskies have had a difficult schedule playing three teams that have been ranked tenth or better in the state.

The Huskies will play on Saturday, October 26 at 7 p.m. at home.
