Senior center midfielder Asia Buryska drives down field against opposing team

Senior Asia Buryska has accomplished a lot this past soccer season. She is a captain for the Owatonna Girls Soccer team and plays center midfielder. Not only was she the runner up for Big 9, but Buryska was also named all-conference for her position. The team finished the season with a record of 10-1 in the Big 9 and 11-5 overall, not to mention winning the Big 9 conference title. Buryska said, “This season went really well. We had a lot of returners, and we were able to come together and win the conference.” Unfortunately, her senior season ended in a heartbreaking loss against the number one ranked team for their section, Lakeville South. The girls lost 2-0 in the section semifinals but had their heads held high knowing what they had accomplished this season.

Apart from being a key factor for the girls soccer team, Buryska is also the starting goalie for the Owatonna girls hockey team. Having only lost two seniors, Buryska said, “I think we have a good run at being Big 9 champs this year. We have a lot of young girls on the team who will have one more year of experience, so I think it will be fun.” Buryska has been a committed athlete to both sports her whole life; involved with soccer for 13 years, and hockey for nine years. Buryska plans to continue her soccer career at Bemidji State University after she graduates.
