Referendum reaction

On Tuesday Nov. 5, the people of Owatonna voted to pass both bond referendems. After a lengthy debate, it was been decided that Owatonna will get a new high school. These are some of the reactions captured, varying from teachers and staff to students.

  • Sky Dube: “I think it’s a step in the right direction for OHS.”

  • Emily Hagen: “I’m happy it went though for the future generations to have a better high school than the one we went through. But I understand why people didn’t want it to go through, but I’m personally glad it went through.”

  • Sydney Hall: “I think that everyone in Owatonna was really shocked about it, but it is a really good push to start coming together as a community.”

  • Annika Andrix: “I’m glad now knowing my younger brother won’t have to go over a 115 year school and that he will he will have a better future because of it.”

  • Mr.Guenther: “My reaction I would have to say is a lot of pride in our community. I of course like many had a feeing of we did it. But I would really have to say I thought about all the people, all of the selfless leaders in our community that have done so much, and donated so much of their time and funds. I believe this truly fits the phase it takes a village.”

  • Nate Smith: ” I feel like everyone should’ve voted yes because our school is really run down and getting a new one will be good for future generations.”

  • Ms. Olson: “I teach special education and I have paraprofessional and other teachers with me and we are so happy because we will get an ADA compliance school.”
