Owatonna Boys Basketball has officially started it’s 2019-2020 season. The season began with their first home game against Osseo on Dec. 3.  Coach Josh Williams returns and is excited for what is to come. This year’s team is lead by captains senior Issac Oppegard and junior Nolan Burmeister, as well as head coach Josh Williams. The Huskies graduated four seniors at the end of last year. This year, there is a lot of young potential, the upcoming underclassmen are full of talent, and have been getting a lot of playing time. The team is excited for another fun season with high hopes.

The players have been working very hard during the offseason and at captains’ practice. The team has seen improvements already and are looking forward to seeing more and having a successful season. Coach Williams said, “It’s been a great start to the year. Players have been working very hard and their attitudes both on and off the court has been outstanding.  We’ll have some growing pains early in the season but have a ton of confidence in our guys that we could be pretty darn good by the end of the year.”

This year, we have a ton of potential on a fairly young team. Although we are projected bottom of our conference because of how young we are, I think we are going to surprise a lot of teams and people.

— Nolan Burmeister

The boys are excited about another fun season. Burmeister said, “This year, we have a ton of potential on a fairly young team. Although we are projected bottom of our conference because of how young we are, I think we are going to surprise a lot of teams and people.” The leadership role has played a big part in the team, and it is a team effort every game.

Boys basketball will be on the road for the next few games, playing Albert Lea and Red Wing. The next home game for the Huskies is at 7:30 p.m on Dec. 20 against Rochester Mayo.
