A great season is coming close to an end as the boys soccer team has played their hearts out so far this season. With an older and more experienced team the Huskies captains Kaden Nelson, Lane Versteeg, Nolan Burmeister and Zach Kubicek have led their team to a record of 6-3-1. The Huskies wins were against Mankato East, Red Wing, Rochester Century, Rochester John Marshall, Faribault and Winona. The Huskies only losses came from Northfield, Mankato West and Austin and they had a tie against Rochester Mayo. The Huskies are an older team with 14 seniors, four juniors, four sophomores and two freshmen.

The team has had many key players on offense and defense. Head Coach Bob Waypa said, “It’s a total team effort, and a lot of this team has seen everything and they’re now passing that information and knowledge on to the other young guys.” The Huskies are hoping for the two or three seed going into sections and are currently ranked fifth in the Big 9. The Huskies want to end the regular season on a high note and go into sections strong.

Due to Covid-19 there will be no state tournament so these section games will be some players last. Versteeg said, “Going into this season it was to enjoy the opportunity to play.” With the regular season over the Huskies don’t know who they’ll face yet but the Huskies will have home-field advantage in their first section game on Thursday, Oct 15 at 7 p.m.
