Boys cross country would have qualified one to state

Junior, Preston Meier, is a three sport athlete who is involved in cross country, hockey and lacrosse. Meier has qualified for state two times in as many years in cross country. He has put in a lot of dedication and effort towards cross country and is very bummed that he wasn’t able to participate in the state meet this year due to COVID- 19. Despite not being able to go to state, Meier had an exceptional season. Owatonna ended up winning the Big 9 as a team, and Meier took third place at the Big 9 meet.
At sections, Meier ended up taking fourth place.Meier said, “It sucks not having state because of all the work I put in and I qualified, but I don’t actually get to represent Owatonna at the state meet.” Meier was disappointed about not having a state meet but has big goals for next season. Goals include looking to win Big 9 and sections and making it to state as a team. Meier said, “My favorite part of the season this year was winning the Big 9 as a team.”
This is Meier’s second time qualifying for the state tournament. Meier had a great experience at the state meet last year. He placed 90 out of 174 people, with a time of 16:50 minutes. His goal for next season is to run a 5k under 16 minutes. Former teammate Brayden Williams said,”Preston has a good attitude and is always positive towards his other teammates, holds everyone accountable.” Meier is a well- rounded student athlete and has a bright future ahead of him.
Meier has not decided where he wants to go for college yet, but wants to major in business and journalism. Meier is a well- rounded student athlete and has a bright future ahead of him. Meier has not only put time and effort into cross country but also hockey and lacrosse. He is one of the varsity goalies for hockey and is one of the midfielders for varsity lacrosse. Meier said, “I am looking into running cross country in college or playing lacrosse.”
