Wipe off the chalk

On Friday, February 14, the OHS Gymnastics team completed their season. Although they finished third in conference and third in the section, the girls had a very successful season. The season was led by Coach Tom Smith. Smith has been coaching for 25 years: one year at the UW River Falls, 17 years in Northfield and 7 years in Owatonna. Smith said, “I thought our season went well. We finished ranked in the top 10 of the Class AA schools in the state. We really improved this season as a team!” The last meet always makes a gymnast a little nervous, as senior Kalley Schwab described it. Not only was it the last meet of the season, but it was the last season that Schwab and fellow senior Kelly Neubauer will be competing in. “It is tough losing such talent, leaders, and motivators on a team,” Smith said. Despite the loss of the two seniors, the meet showed some promising new talent. Two eighth graders, Becca Olsen and Macy Hanson, stepped up and competed on Varsity. Although Gymnastics is wrapped up for the year, the girls set the bar high for next season’s competition.
