Huskies awaiting tip-off

Nick Williams, Writer

The Owatonna Boys Basketball team has had a phenomenal season so far. The Huskies are going into sections hot after winning four straight games. With a record of 13-3, Owatonna finished third in the Big 9 and was awarded the three seed in the section tournament. The Huskies only losses have come at the hands of the Austin Packers, and the Mankato West Scarlets. Both teams finished ahead of Owatonna in the Big 9.

The Huskies are very confident about their chances to make a deep run in the playoffs. Head Coach Josh Williams said, “I am very excited about our team’s ability to make a great run in the playoffs. We have had a solid season so far and are a top three  seed in the section. The chance is definitely there to make a state tournament run, now we need to go out and make it reality.” The Huskies hope to stay healthy and avoid illness to give themselves the best possible chance to make it to the state tournament.

Owatonna has many tremendous leaders on the team which has helped them a lot this season. With a relatively young team, the seniors have really had to step up in leadership roles this year. The Huskies have had many ups and downs this season with injuries and occasionally not playing to the best of their ability but have still managed to be very solid. Senior captain Nolan Burmeister said, “I believe the only team that can beat us is ourselves. We are strong in every phase of the game, but if we don’t start strong or move the ball well, that is where things could get interesting for us.” With playoff time upon the Huskies, they will have to continue to play great basketball  to accomplish their goals this season.

Owatonna plays at home against New Prague in the first round of the section tournament on Wed. March 17 at 7 p.m. The game will be available to watch on Owatonna Live.
