As May comes around the corner, the Owatonna Boys Golf team is in full swing. With the completion of the Big 9 mid season tournament, a well balanced team of leadership in veteran players and young players who contribute, are looking forward to playing their best in the Big 9 conference final tournament.

Senior Jonny Wall has the best round of the year, scoring a 75 on a difficult course. The course Wall played was the bridges in Winona, located in the Pleasant Valley. A big part of golf is spending time actually golfing, Wall said, , “We have a great group of guys who come to practice everyday with an excellent attitude.” As the rest of the season continues, Wall reflects on the future with, “No expectations, just aspirations.”

The team proceeds to improve as the season progresses, Coach Mark Langlois said, “The players’ course management, and focusing on the present has helped us get some wins, and allow us to see steady improvement.” The team’s best low total was set in Waseca on April 15, they managed to score a 335.

Evan Little is a senior at OHS, this is his first year as a golfer. Little chose to golf because he used to play baseball in the spring and golfed in the summer, later deciding that he enjoys golf more and would rather spend the last of his senior year doing something he has a passion for. Little has come a long way this year with his form on and off the green, he mentions, “I’m expecting to do much better at the final Big 9 tournament, than what I did at the mid-season Big 9 tournament.”

The Owatonna Boys Golf team will be hitting the greens in the Big 9 tournament on Tuesday, May 25 at the Northern Hills course in Rochester.
