Huskies coming off the field

The Owatonna Boys Baseball team has been amazing all season, they are currently second in the Big 9 with a 9-2 record, just behind Mankato West. They are the fourth seed in the section with the chance of getting a home field advantage when playoffs come.

The Huskies will finally get the full team back next week, when pitcher Gavin Rein comes back after a concussion. They have been riddled with injuries and contact tracings the whole year. The players are excited to have the whole team back. Senior captain Jacob Meiners said, “The whole team being back reunites our chemistry which we really need to have for playoffs starting up in a few days.”

While the team has been fully healthy, they have been nearly unstoppable behind great pitching from senior captains Matt Seykora, Brayden Truelson and Payton Beyer. The team has only won one game when the captains have not pitched.  Head Coach Tate Cummins said, “Our captains have really stepped up when the team has needed it the most, along with some of the players who don’t get in the game very much.” Coach Cummins has also brought up two sophomores from the JV team, Ayden Walters and Drew Kretlow, to play some varsity and they will end up on the official 20 man roster come playoffs.

Catch the Huskies playing their first playoff game on Saturday, May 29 against New Prague. Spectators can check the Big 9 website for the location of the playoff game.
