The Price Is Right comes to OHS Cash Drive
November 16, 2021
The Price is Right is a classic game show that is coming to Owatonna High School for a cash drive event. This is the first time that the price is right will be held as an event at OHS. The earnings from the event will go to the charity Beds for Kids, a nonprofit organization dedicated to providing beds for children in need.
There are a few things that participants need to know before the event. There will be 16 rounds in total, 15 of them being normal rounds and the last one being a round for all the winners from the previous 15 rounds. In order to play, students must donate five dollars to be entered into the wheel of participants, then before each round new players are selected randomly. This means that not everyone is guaranteed a spot in the event. But, as a way to boost the chance of being drawn, participants can donate more money to get their names placed more on the wheel. The game follows the normal price is right rules. Contestants bid on an item as close as they can to the actual price without going over. The prizes are the items that players guess the actual price of that item.
Although OHS has not had any experience with hosting the price is right as an event, many of the coordinators are excited for it. OHS Student Council Adviser Ms. Sandra Justice said, “The Price is Right is a new event so we’re looking forward to that because it’s bringing something new and exciting to OHS.”
Although the theme for cash drive week is grade vs. grade, the price is right brings in an individualistic aspect to contrast all the group events. Ms. Justice said, “Even if you don’t have anyone to go with you can still go to the price is right since it’s more of a solo event and not much of a team activity.” OHS students and staff alike are excited to attend the event.
Attending the price is right would not only be a fun form of entertainment, but it would also be a great way to support Beds for Kids. The game will be held on Thursday, Nov. 18, from 7:30 to 9:30 p.m. in the OHS auditorium.
