Girls Hockey Team celebrates after they score.

The Owatonna Girls Hockey team is off to an amazing start and have been playing harder competition outside of Big 9 to get ready for sections. Even though the competition has been harder this season, the Huskies are still pushing to be the best they can be. The Huskies have won eight games, lost six and tied one.

The Huskies did lose some key players from last year’s roster, but through all the changes they are still pushing to be the strongest team they can be. This year’s captains are seniors Ava Wolfe and Olivia Herzog and junior captain Ezra Oien. Their leadership has brought the team closer and showed the new girls to the roster how the Huskies fight through the hard competition this season. Oien said, ”This team is very relentless on and off the ice and we all push together through the hard times that approach us this season.”

After being co-Big 9 champs with Northfield in the 2019-2020 season, they have had goals to achieve more in future seasons. They have been doing many on and off-ice routines to get ready for upcoming sections. Head Coach Tony Cloud said, “Being able to push through and challenge yourself from playing non-conference games and being able to push through and try to improve on the things we were not successful on.”

Through all the challenges that come up this season the team still pushes through them. The Huskies next game is vs. Rochester Mayo on Monday, Jan. 31 in Owatonna.  The Owatonna Girls Hockey Team is Big 9 Champs this 2021-2022 season.
