The boys took on Red Wing last Saturday winning 7-2. This year’s record has not been exactly what they wanted with a record of 4-13-1, but with a good amount of games left, they could turn it around. This year the team has four senior captains, Casey Pederson, Preston Meier, Joey Dub and Grant Achterkirch. Four great leaders to the team who have made a huge impact on the team.

The Huskies received a new head coach this year. Coach Dave Fromm is from Minnesota and has spent the last decade coaching a AAA program in Colorado. He also coached at Minneapolis South before heading west. Head Coach Fromm said, “I draw from all my life’s experiences to try to help, teach and motivate our athletes. Working as a high school coach in Minnesota prior and in Colorado is definitely top of the list.”

There has been lots of sickness and injuries this year that have hit the team hard, but it’s  teaching the team adversity and sacrifice. These are great life lessons as well as on ice lessons. Senior captain Joey Dub said, “Having a new high school coach has been a learning experience of a new system this year so it’s been a change. It’s also been different with a different voice in the locker room.” The boys team may have started off on a rough patch but they will be back and better. The Owatonna Boys Hockey team’s next home game will be held on Thursday, Feb. 3 at 7 p.m. vs. Rochester Mayo.
