February 17, 2022
Kya Dixon will be taking her talents to Concordia St. Paul to pursue her academics and compete in track and field. Dixon has been on the track team since eighth grade and has been successful at it ever since. Since middle school, she has always thrown shot put, helping the track team win meet after meet. Now in high school she continues to be successful in shot put and finished as Big 9 champion and medaled in sections as a junior and is looking to win even more this coming season.
Dixon loves this sport and has put in hard work to get where she is today. Last season Dixon was throwing an average distance of 36’ 6”. This year she will be looking to improve and try to make it further into sections and possibly into state. Dixon said, “I am calm and just compete to the best of my ability at that meet.”
Dixon is very committed to this sport and is always finding ways to get better. Throwing coach Amy Lageson said, “Kya has taken multiple opportunities during the offseason to attend clinics, camps, etc. in order to continue learning and improving her shot put and discus skills.” This goes to show why Dixon is always competing to win.
Dixon chose Concordia because it reminds her of home and she will have a lot of fun because she will be surrounded by many other athletes. According to Dixon about 80% of students attend for sports, so it will be a very comfortable environment for Dixon to excel in.
Dixon has a bright future ahead inside and outside of her sport. She will be majoring in sports management and will be minoring in business at Concordia. Dixon’s family, friends, coaches and teammates are confident in her ability to compete at the next level and are thrilled to see what she does in the future.
