OHS choirs perform at All City Choir Concert

Ashley Holm, Writer

The All City choir performance will be showcasing all of the talented singers in the OHS choirs . The OHS choirs include: Huskies, Varsity and Concert choirs.  In previous years, the fifth grade All City choir would perform with all of the OHS choirs during the All City performance in the mass closing song. However, this year will look a little different because the OHS choirs will be singing with the eighth grade choir instead. The last time the OHS choirs performed was on Nov. 9 and Dec. 7, 2021. This concert will be a showcase of the growth and improvement made from the early winter. It will be a fun experience for families and the audience to see all of the choirs since their last performances.

Each of the choirs have been working on their songs and are excited to perform. It will be a special concert, since this will be the first time all of the choirs will perform together this school year. One of OHS concert choir singers, Senior Justice Holmes said, “What’s most exciting about the All -City concert is simply the fact that we finally get to do it again. It’s been quite a long time since there has been normalcy in our community and it feels really good to be able to have this concert again.” The concerts are finally able to have some normalcy since COVID-19 as this will be one of the first normal concerts for the freshman and sophomores.

The mass closing song this year is Draw the Circle Wide. All OHS choirs and the eighth grade choir will be singing this at the end of the concert. The OHS choir director Mr. Brandon Berger said, “Draw the Circle Wide is a piece about standing side by side with your neighbor whether they’re your friend or not, and kind of coming together for a collective good. I think that’s what choir and music can do for others.” It will be a piece that really brings all of the choirs together and will spread some joy throughout our community again with singing.

The All City Concert will be happening on Thursday, March 10 at 7 p.m. at Owatonna High School in the auditorium. It is free admission for anyone to watch the OHS choirs and the eighth grade choir.
