The Owatonna Adaptive Floor Hockey team is going to state. The Huskies finished the regular season with a 2-5 record. The Huskies beat Mankato in the first round of the playoffs and beat White Bear Lake 19-13 to take the team to state.

The captains for this year’s team include Jessica Parsons, Ryan Gander, Javelle Higgs and Chole Talley. This team is different from previous years because of the players’ depth and experience. Coach John Scheil said, “It’s a big senior group which a lot of times I don’t even have five seniors, so it’s exciting they made it to state, but disappointing they’ll be graduating next year.”

The first round of state will start on March 18, where Owatonna will be playing the two seed from the south which is a co-op with players from Burnsville, Lakeville and Farmington. Senior captain Javelle Higgs said, “We will get the dub, and make this school proud.”

The Huskies are on a hot streak, winning four games in a row after starting the season 0-5, making the team finish with a 4-5 record leading into state play. A major reason for this team’s late success is its growth over the years. Coach  Scheil said, “My favorite moment from this year is just seeing the team grow and become more comfortable playing with each other.”

In state, they will play on Friday, March 18 at 6:30pm at Bloomington Jefferson High School. On Saturday, March 19, win or lose. A third game will be played if they win both games for the championship. The Huskies will have a send off to state on Friday, March 18 at 2:40 in the lower commons.
