This spring, Owatonna Girls Golf is swinging into season with a new head coach. Ms. Kari Opatz has been hired as the new coach for OHS Girls Golf. Opatz has been involved with golf for 11 years and also played Division I golf at the University of Montana. Last spring Opatz was an assistant coach for OHS Girls Golf and this will be her first year as head coach.

Ms. Opatz is fresh energy for the Girls Golf team. Opatz said, “I love being able to spend time with the girls and helping them develop a love for the game of golf.” Being able to watch the girls grow and improve from where they started is one of the best parts of this coaching experience.

Opatz will bring a lot of excitement to the OHS Girls Golf. She said, “I feel I can build good relationships with the girls as well as be a great role model for the team.” Opatz is motivated and ready for this season. There are a lot of new girls as well as underclassmen, Opatz said, “I’m looking forward to seeing the growth from the beginning of this season to the end.”

Coach Opatz’s energy will bring a lot of positivity to the OHS Girls Golf team. The captains this year are juniors Brooke Kunkel, Mckayla Mahlman, and Emily Schmidt. Junior Emily Schmidt said, “My goal this season for our team is for everyone to really connect and improve with all the new people joining.” The captains as well as the team are confident and motivated to have a good season.

The girls next meet is Monday, April 18, at the Northern Hills Golf Course where they face off against Rochester John Marshall at 2:30 p.m.
