Big 9 just around the corner
On Saturday, March 8, Owatonna High School hosted the OHS speech team for their home meet. “It went really smooth and the kids did well,” said Head Coach Lauren Gendron. A total of 16 teams competed throughout the halls of the school to go for the win. Owatonna took fifth place in the ‘big school’ division. Maureen Gleason and Madelyn Vieths took first and third place respectively in poetry. Preparing for the meet went off without a hitch, albeit a lot of time was spent on it; members spent hours after school throughout the week putting up posters, setting up rooms, and helping the coaches in any way they needed. Senior Marna Wal said, “There was a lot of hard work that went into making our home meet a success last Saturday. It was a lot of fun. I’m really excited to see how the team does this upcoming Saturday at our last invitational.” Next Saturday, March 15, the speech team heads to Northfield, the final invitational of the regular season. The following Monday is Big 9 where the team is hopeful for state qualifiers.
