With a record of 5-4, the Owatonna adapted floor hockey team is headed to state with a winning season. Coach Erin Stumo said, “It has been a great season so far. We’re really excited [for state]. It’s going to be fun.” The team this year is the smallest it has ever been. “We have three players with no experience at all in floor hockey, but everybody came together and supported each other,” Stumo said.

The floor hockey team’s season was riddled with highlights. Even with the smallest team ever, Stumo said, “We beat South Suburban which was a really big win for us. We had a game where every single person on our team scored a goal and several players got their first goal ever.” Adapted floor hockey goes to state almost every year, but Stumo said, “I’m most proud of how we really started to play as a team.”

North Suburban, ranked number one in the state for adapted floor hockey and the former state champions are going head to head against Owatonna at state on Friday. “If we play the way we played last week, I think we’ll do really well against them,” Stumo said.

Adapted floor hockey’s state game is this Friday, Mar. 14 at 5 p.m. at Bloomington Jefferson high school. They also play sometime Saturday depending on if they win or lose on Friday.
