As the football season carries on, the Owatonna Cheerleaders motivate the football team as they march their way to victory. The team has been practicing for four months now and are really starting to come together.

The team has really been starting to come together this month. This season’s captains, junior Mariah Cuellar and senior Katrina Bartz have taken leadership over the team and are helping lead them in the right direction. Bartz started cheering because her mom cheered in high school so she wanted to give it a try. She has loved doing it ever since. Bartz said, “I think the hardest part about cheer is creating a good dynamic with the team as early as possible, and finding a groove together.”

So far the team has been functioning well together and working really hard. Coach Mara Oien has been the coach of the team since 2007. Ms. Oien said, “I was very impressed on how well all three squads came together, not just working by themselves. You could really see it in our homecoming routine.” Ms. Oien has also been impressed with many of the first year cheerleaders and how they have quickly picked up all the dances and cheers. The cheerleaders will continue to root for our football team for the rest of the season.

The cheerleaders will be back in action on Wednesday, Oct.19  at 7:00 p.m. at Kasson- Mantorville for the Huskies last home regular season football game.
