Martin Gleason, also known as Marty to his friends, is a man of many traits. He is involved in many extracurricular activities and clubs here at the OHS. This long list includes football, track and field, National Honors Society, Student Council, DECA, choir and he is the president of the Robotics club. He was also a top five candidate for Homecoming king. Outside of school, Martin has been involved in Boy Scouts since a very young age. In the past year, he has become an Eagle Scout. Martin works at the Hy-Vee grocery store, as well. When asked how he balances everything, he said, “I try to keep myself on top of all of my activities. I’ve learned that using a planner is very helpful.” Although these activities take up much of Martin’s time, he still finds time to spend with his many friends. Gleason said, “I just find time. There’s always down time somewhere and friends just seem to fit.”
Walking out of high school, Martin will have made many memories, including a state championship football title. Throughout the entirety of his time here, Martin’s favorite memories were made with his friends. “I made a lot of memories with my friends and loved spending time with them,” Gleason said. “It was probably my favorite part of high school.”
Martin was recently accepted into the Air Force Academy. Gleason is pursuing a major in aerospace engineering. He said, “I’ve wanted to attend the Air Force Academy since the sixth grade. I am very excited to move forward and attend the Academy.” Martin has definitely left his mark on this school and town with his involvement and dedication to all of his activities as well as all of the positive impact he has made on all of those who have had the pleasure of knowing him.
