This season has been one of many for the girls hockey team and they have had several accomplishments, both as a whole team and individually. As a team, the girls finished the regular season with a 18-6 record and were Big 9 Champs. The Huskies beat the Northfield Raiders both times they’ve played, one which gave them the conference title and one coming back from a 4-1 deficit. Ahead of the upcoming playoffs, they also beat the number one seed in their section, Lakeville South.

The team hopes to continue their success and achievement for the rest of the post season and make a deep playoff run. With aims to potentially make it to state, they still look for any way to improve to help them remain winning. Senior captain Ezra Oien said, “We need to continuously be consistent with each other and just continue our chemistry as a team. We need to keep playing and working together and tune in the little things.”

Oien has been playing hockey her whole life and is now in her final season as a Husky this year as a senior. She has signed to play Division I hockey at the University of Vermont to continue her hockey career at the next level, but is focused on the rest of her last high school season.
Oien said, “Ever since our Northfield game we’ve kind of put things together and turned things around. We have a bit of a winning streak and have gone into sections with pretty high hopes to make a run for state.”

Along with Oien, several other seniors have made a huge contribution to the team. Head coach Tony Cloud said, “I have been fortunate enough to coach this special group of seniors since their eighth grade year. Macy, Mady, CJ, Ava, Ezra, Sarah and Abby have all helped lead our team to the success we have had over the past few seasons. Each has contributed in different ways, and this group of seniors has been able to set a new standard for our program moving forward”.

Cloud has been a supplement for the team and has been a big component in the team’s success. He exploits the team’s strengths and pushes his players to improve in the weaknesses. Cloud said, “Some things our team can focus on for sections are playing as a team, using our team speed, and capitalizing on other team’s mistakes. These things are crucial as games get tougher throughout the tournament. When our team plays together and plays quickly, we can dictate the game’s flow.”

On Wednesday, Feb. 8, the team beat the Rochester Century Panthers 8-2 in the first round of sections. The Huskies will face off against the Lakeville North Cougars this Saturday, Feb. 11 at 7 p.m. in Lakeville.
