The OHS Cheerleaders continue cheering on in school spirit as the winter season goes by. Once February hits, all squads come together and start preparing a performance for snow week. The cheer team works together to create a routine that consists of a dance, a cheer, tumbling and stunting.

Their first performance was at the boys basketball game on Saturday, Feb. 18 and performed at the snow week pep fest.

Coach Dietz said, “During our winter cheer season, the Cheerleaders split up into five small varsity squads and one JV squad. The squads go their separate ways, cheering for their respective teams. Snow Week gives us the opportunity to come together to create a routine with great visuals and more difficult stunt sequences.”

Junior Kaitlyn Jore-Rami enjoys when all the squads coming together for one big performance.

Rami said, “I really enjoy working with other squads during the snow week performance because it gives me a chance to get a closer bond with the other girls, and be around my other friends who aren’t on my squad.”

Senior captain Katarina Bartz has been a part of the OHS cheer team since seventh grade and is not  ready to be done cheering.

Bartz said, “It’s bittersweet, I remember being in them since seventh grade, they are tiring but I will miss the feeling of finishing our routine in front of everyone.”

Freshman captain Georgia Schrom cheers for boys hockey throughout the winter season. Schrom loves cheering for hockey but also loves to stunt and has fun stunting with her teammates for the performance.

Schrom said, ”I’m always excited for our snow week routine because I love to stunt. So this pep fest is something I look forward to doing every year.”

Varsity coach Mara Oien has been head coach of the OHS cheer team for 13 years, a total of 26 seasons. Oien was also a Huskie cheerleader herself in high school.

Coach Oien said, “It’s our last snow week pepfest in this gym. Being a former cheerleader and now a teacher and coach I have many fond memories. The snow week routines have always been one of the highlights of the winter cheer season. But I’m also excited for our new school and all the new memories we will make!”

The next game the OHS cheerleaders will be cheering at is the OHS Girls Basketball game on Tuesday, Feb. 21 at 7:30 p.m.
