The Huskies Boys Swim and Dive team has had a pleasing year so far. Before the season ends, the Owatonna Boys Swim and Diving team will compete in the section meet. The team must keep their high levels of concentration and intensity to find the success they have had the whole season.

Head coach Peter Rhodes said, ”We have had our most successful year yet. Our record is 4-4. At the conference meet, we were sixth out of 12.  One of our highlights was beating Mankato West. In the 10 years I have been coach, this is the first time we have done that.”

The team has high hopes going into the section meet and are hungrier than ever.

Senior captain Ryan Peterson said, “We placed sixth overall at Big 9 which was the best we’ve placed in years, it was amazing to see how much we’ve improved.”

The improvement and success at the Big 9 meet didn’t end there.

Rhodes said, “Another success story is that Cole Piepho won first place in diving at the Conference meet.”

This gives the Huskies the right amount of push and momentum for the upcoming section meet.

Although the Huskies didn’t win the Big 9 Conference meet, they have many team members looking to make it to state.

Rhodes said, “We have an outside chance of getting our 200 free relay to state, we are currently sitting in second place, the top two go to state. We also have hopes of getting a diver or two to state.”

The Huskies have their eyes set on more than just the upcoming section meet. Rhodes said, “We are also chasing some school records: Matthew Larsen in the 100 fly and the 200 medley relay with David Rhodes, Ryan Peterson, Matthew Larsen and Carter Quam.”

With the biggest meet of the season coming up, the Huskies look to prove many people wrong as they participate in the section meet.

The section meet will take place on Feb. 24-25 at 6 p.m. at the Rochester Rec Center.
