March 10, 2023
Big Brothers Big Sisters is doing yet another fundraiser for their great cause. Big Brothers Big Sisters of Southern Minnesota (BBBS), is doing multiple fundraisers in April that involve OHS students.
This year BBBS is selling t-shirts for $15 a piece that say “Smile more worry less.” For every shirt that is ordered, $5 will go to BBBS and their cause. The sales of these shirts end on March 15th, 2023.
Senior Mikayla McGurran, who plays a big role as the OHS club leader on the BBBS staff.
McGurran said, “BBBS is a non-profit organization that supports students through one-to-one mentoring relationships to support the critical social and emotional development needed to help build resilience and promote the mental health and well-being of kids.”
OHS is doing its part to raise money as well. OHS will be holding a “Dash for Cash” during second hour from April 10-13. The class that donates the most money will get donuts and juice from HyVee. This is a great way to raise money and reward students for donating.
Money is being raised for “Bowl for Kids’ sake.” This is BBBS’s signature fundraiser to help them raise money. It’s an easy way for our students to make a lasting impact on the Owatonna community. Fundraising goes to help the students have a bowling party once the money is raised. McGurran said, ”Every April all the schools compete to see who can raise the most money. Last year OHS beat Mckinley by only $200.”
Pie a Teacher in the Face will also be held at OHS. From April 17-19 there will be teachers’ faces on buckets that students can put money in. The pieing will take place on the nineteenth, during afternoon compass. It will cost $1 to watch. For each dollar students put in a bucket they will get to write their name on a paper, out of these papers, one name will be chosen to “pie” the top two teachers.
BBBS is incredibly appreciative of any donations made and will use the money for a great cause. Here is the link to buy a shirt
