The Owatonna Boys Tennis team has had a great start to the season, going 4-0 so far. They hope to work hard to improve everyday in order to continue their success.

Captains on the team include Charlie Tucker and Maclean Pilcher. The team has many seniors: Garrett Buryska, Gavin Caron, Aiden Engel, Emmett Krueger and Anthony Weide. The team has 31 players ranging from grade 7th – 12th, so the senior class will be able to lead the young team.

Senior captain Nils Gantert, has been on varsity tennis since his sophomore year. His experience will help lead him to a successful season and will be able to help out the younger players.

“This team is going to be just as good as last year. We lost a few guys from last year, but we have some good young talent filling in,” Gantert said.

Gantert hopes the team can win Big 9, but hopes to be an individual Big 9 champ and win individual sections as well.

Head coach Curt Matejcek has similar goals and high hopes for the season.

“Our team goals are to finish top three in the conference and make it to the Section final four. Individual goals are for players to continue to improve all season long and give full effort each day,” Matejcek said.

The team’s next home match will be Tuesday, May. 2 against Rochester Century.
