The Owatonna High School theater presents the spring play: “You Can’t Take It With You” opening Thursday, May 4. The show  is about a crazy family, the Sycamores. The Sycamores do what they want, with joy and fulfillment. There are many hobbies that the family enjoys which include fireworks, snakes, playwriting, and ballet.

Senior Paige Anselmo said, “Some of the characters ended up going down a path that they think is expected of them. And they ended up not being very happy adults.”

As the family goes through their life they show struggles and joy.

This year there are many newcomers to the spring play, one of the new actors in theater is senior Caleb Schlie. Schlie is playing the role of Grandpa.

Schlie said,“He’s like the head of a family.” As the show continues we see the importance of family and also the importance of life.

OHS Theater Director Erik Eitrheim said, “This show does have a moral message. It’s about what is important to you and the idea of what you can take with you.”

As the year ends, and the new school comes, this will be the last directed show in the OHS auditorium.

Mr. Eitrheim said, “I wanted to do something that kind of reflected some history. I felt like an old show that kind of fit in well with our old theater.”

This will be the fourth time “You Can’t Take it With You” has been done in the OHS auditorium. Showing that not everything in life will matter in the end, and the only thing that will stay is love and family.

The play will show on Thursday, May 4, Friday, May 5 and Saturday May. 6 at 7:00 p.m., and a matinee show on Sunday, May. 7 at 1:30 p.m. Tickets are available at https://www.owatonnaactivities.com/ticketing.
