The Owatonna Softball team has been rolling to start off the season. They are 3-0 and are not showing signs of slowing down any time soon. The team has won their last two games by a combined 43 runs. The Huskies are optimistic about their chances of making a deep playoff run.

Junior Zoie Roush said, “We should be very successful this season because we are all so close on and off the field.”

They won their first game against Austin 14-2 to start the season off. Juniors Kennedy Hodgman and Mehsa Krause threw for a five inning combined no-hitter. The Huskies also strung together 19 hits throughout the game.

While having a good first game, their second game was even more dominant than the first. The Huskies won 25-5 against the John Marshall Rockets. Roush and senior Paiton Glynn had four hits for the second game in a row. Roush also hit the teams first grand slam of the season.

Glynn said, “Only losing one senior from last year has helped us be really successful.”

The Huskies played their home opener on Monday, April. 17th. The Huskies won 12-1 against Faribault. Krause hit her second home run of the season and junior Taya Selbrade led the Huskies with three hits.

Glynn said, “We can credit our dramatic wins so far to our strong ability to work together as a team through accountability and communication.”

Head coach Jeremy Moran said,“ We are focusing more on how we do things this year vs. focusing on what we want to accomplish.” The team has had much success so far and will try to continue this hot streak throughout the season.

“A big goal we have for this season is building a community throughout the team and program, through building relationships, doing things with a purpose, and having pride in what we do,” Glynn said.

The Huskies next home game is on Tuesday, May 2nd.
