Boys lacrosse team kicks off the season with high hopes

After last year, the boys lacrosse team is looking to turn it around and make a deep postseason run. The boys lacrosse team ended last season with a 4-10 record. With their former leading scorer Preston Meier graduating, the lacrosse team now has a large role to fill.

OHS junior and captain Jack Strom ended with the second most points on the team with 22 goals and six assists, he is looking to have another stellar season this year. The lacrosse team is also looking for sophomore Michael Heitkamp to have another great season after scoring 16 goals in his freshman season.

With many new additions to the lacrosse team they are hoping for someone to take a big role on the team.

Strom said, “Well with our leading scorer graduating I feel like I and the rest of the team have a bigger role and need to step up our game overall.”

The team has many new additions to the team, this year the program has had the most lacrosse players to go out for the sport in over 10 years, giving the team many new options.

 Head coach  Scott Seykora said, “I look forward to player development and improving every game this season. We have a lot of new players that are working hard and it will be fun to see where they are at the end of the season.”

The Lacrosse team started off the season with a loss to Rochester Mayo. Owatonna was leading for the entire first half until Mayo tied it up going into half 6-6. The second half had Owatonna only scoring 1 and Mayo scoring 9 ending the game with a final score of 7-15 and starting the season with a 0-1 record.

The boys next game is on Thursday, April  27 at 7:30 p.m.against the Northfield Raiders in Northfield.
