Owatonna Boys Tennis has been off to a hot start. With a roster full of seniors, they have high expectations heading into sections. They ended the season 14-2, losing to Century and Mayo. With tough section competition, they have to be on top of their game.

The section roster for this season is loaded with seniors including: Maclean Pilcher, Nils Gantert, Charles Tucker, Aiden Engel, Emmett Krueger, and Gavin Caron.

This season is a statement season for an older Huskies team. Head Coach Curt Matejcek said, “We’ve had a strong season. We are 14-2 and our only loss has been to Mayo who is currently third in the state, and Century.”

Coach Matejcek said, “I have graduated a lot of kids before, but not so many high level kids in one year before. Next year will not be an easy battle for us, we are really gonna have to put in a lot of time this offseason.”

The Huskies received a first round bye and will play Rochester John Marshall on Wednesday. Gantert said, “We just finished a close match with John Marshall so it will definitely be a tough matchup.” With Mayo, Lakeville North, Century, and John Marshall in their section, it will be no cake walk to state.

The Huskies next match is at home on Wednesday May 16, at 2:30 p.m. against Rochester John Marshall.
