With an overall record of 15-4, the girls golf team has had an outstanding season so far and hopes to continue that with a strong finish to the season.

Senior captain Emily Schmidt thinks that the season their team has been having is one of the better in a while.

Schmidt said, “This season has been really good up to this point, one of the best years so far. We are hoping to place in the top 3 of Big 9 as well as make it to the second day of sections.”

Emily looks forward to the rest of the season and hopes that her team can continue to improve and takes steps forward heading into sections.

Another standout performer is Carmen Jirele, who is consistently golfing in the 80s for the varsity team. She was on varsity last season but the team has seen tremendous improvement from her this year.

Makalya Mahlman also has had a great season, and shot her personal best on May 9t at the Austin meet with a score of 83.

Head coach Jason Kaytor has very similar goals as Schmidt and hopes to place at least third in conference, make it to the second day of sections and send a few golfers to state.

Mr. Kaytor also thinks that this season has been a memorable one, with both highs and lows. Coach Kaytor said, “The season has been going really well so far. I think the two biggest highs of the season have been placing third at the first conference tournament and not having a score above 400 this year. The only low I can think of was the early season weather.”

The teams next meet will be the Big Nine meet on Thursday, May. 25, at the Mankato North Links golf course.
