OHS’s Choir will be holding their last concert of the year on Friday, May 26 at 8 p.m. The choir will be honoring any and all seniors apart from any choral groups here at OHS. First year choir director Ms.Paula Asmus, has grown greatly with all groups, yet most importantly the senior-singers.

Ms. Asmus has been eager to watch everyone perform their group and individual music at this senior recital. Some specific solo/ensembles will be performing as well.

Ms. Asmus said, “All of our students who participated in Solo Ensemble really had worked these pieces up in January. So now they are just starting to rework it and fine tune it once again.”

Not only are solo/ensemble groups reworking their songs, Concert Choir is as well. Ms. Asmus said, “Concert Choir has been really fine tuning songs they did for Big 9 and those individual concerts we did throughout the year, and we switched modes into Pops. So now we are reworking all the songs we did earlier in the year and for a lot of them we are singing them better than we did because we have grown as an ensemble.”

Paige Anselmos, a senior alto, has been a part of choir all four years at OHS. Anselmo has truly enjoyed the past four years of the choir program. Anselmo said, “I am incredibly excited for the concert! I am very proud of the work we have done this school year and the graduation concert is the ultimate representation of that.”

Anselmo’s favorite part of the choir program has been, “The memories I’ve made with all my classmates and teachers. The music we have made together is so special and the OHS choirs will always hold a place in my heart.”

Another senior alto, Abigail Beaver, is extremely excited for the concert this coming Friday. Although like most, it is a mix of emotions leaving the program. Still while in class she has been practicing the school hymn all Seniors sing at the end of the concert.

Beaver said, “As a Varsity Choir member, my rehearsals have been different then those of concert choir members. We did sing the school hymn 10-12 times with the Concert Choir as well as practicing with them at the dress rehearsal this past sunday.”

Besides practice, Beaver has been reflecting positively on her past four years as a part of OHS Choir. Beaver said, “My favorite part about the program has been meeting and growing with my peers. I have met some of my best friends through the music program and I am so glad to have been a part of it.”

This Graduation Concert will be one to remember since it is the last of the senior class here at the old OHS. But, this event will symbolize new beginnings for the years to come. The Graduation Concert will be on Friday, May 26 at 8 p.m. at  St. John’s Lutheran Church.
