OHS Student Council is making a big change. This year instead of the traditional “Cash Drive Week”, the week will be known as “Huskies Give Week”. Student Council co-advisor Casie DeVos says that the Owatonna Community is a tremendos asset to OHS and they give and give and this is one way to give back. Monies raised and items collected this week will benefit the United Way, Community Pathways and Toys for Tots, but not only are non-profits benefitting, OHS students will have an opportunity to take part in making tie blankets and donating items. Students can participate in a coat and sock drive for OHS Husky Pantry too. Devos said that we hope that this week inspires OHS student to give back to the community that has supported them for so long.
Dom Korbel, excutive director of Community Pathways declared that, “over 11,000 individiuals will be served this year by Communtity Pathways, and 34% of those are under the age of 17, what that means, is that there are students in the hallways, in your classrooms, who need our help, you are making a difference.”
Besides giving, OHS students can also volunteer their time if they choose or students can do both. Superintendent Jeff Elstad said “I love the fact that our high school students are picking [Huskies Give Week] up and I hope our students see that everything that they are doing is going directly to help their friends and neighbors.”
