Last Tuesday, the Owatonna boys soccer teams season came to an end after losing on the road to the number one seeded Rochester JM Rockets 2-0 in the section championship game. The Huskies were the second seed in sections. Coach Bob Waypa said, “This team really grew together as the season went on, we had great leadership to help bring the younger guys along. I liked what I saw, I’m very proud of this team.” The players were obviously disappointed with the loss, but overall still felt like they had a great season. “I would consider [this season] a success, we made it to the section championship game. There were only sixteen teams that made it to that point in the season and we were one of those teams,” said senior Ryan Steiger. Senior captain Dexter Leer was a top 5 finalist in the state for Mr. Soccer, and was placed on the all-state team. Congratulations to Leer and all the Owatonna soccer players on another great season.
