This year has a lot of new faces on the Owatonna High School girls hockey varsity team due to the number of graduated seniors. The new team has a more diverse age group than past years, this does not affect their great chemistry as a team. Coach Tim Hunst said, “We are continuing to improve and have built our record to 12-9.  Overall, we had very little varsity experience coming into this year, so our progress is a welcome sight.” Hunst has been the coach for the girls’ hockey team for many years and continues to improve his players every year. This year the captains are seniors Kacy Borwege and Katie Johnson along with junior Peyton DeVinny. Borwege said, “It is an honor to be a captain and having the team rely on you.” Borwege has been in hockey nearly her entire life. Borwege also participates in the post-secondary education program at Riverland Community College.  Hunst said, “Kacy Borwege is a quiet leader who has the ability to lead by example- with hard work and strong play.” The Owatonna girls hockey team recently lost to Dodge Center this past Tuesday 0-8.The next girls hockey game is against Winona on Thursday Jan. 29, at 7:30 pm at the Winona Bud King Ice Arena.
