The Owatonna Boys tennis season is about to begin. Coach Kurt Matejcek has been the Head Coach for over 19 years and still wants the best for the players on the team. Coach Matejcek said, “The challenge so far this season has been to have a full squad for practice because of spring break.” The hardest part of Matejcek’s job this season is to find replacements for the positions of last year’s seniors, but he has a good idea of what lineup he wants to use. Returning players from last year include: sophomores Eden Mrozek and Derek Thada, junior Noah Velasquez and seniors Michael Duerr, Ethan Schulz and Tim Starman. Senior captain Ethan Schulz said, “It feels great to be coming back as a captain for my second year. As a captain, I can help younger members the way I was helped when I was first in tennis.” There have been many different captains’ practices for the team to attend to build their skills for the season. The next tennis match is Thurs. April 9 a double header in Rochester facing both Rochester John Marshall and Red Wing.
