On to state
The Owatonna’s Speech team’s season wrapped up with the section speech meet in Northfield on Thursday, April 9. For most of the team, the season is over. Junior captain Emma Smith said, “This season was incredible. There was growth and improvement in everyone, and it was very cool to see this not only as a teammate, but as their friend.” For three female “speechers” though, the season is not over. The top three “speechers” in each category attend the State meet and Owatonna’s seniors Ella Rasp and Margaret Sager and junior Jennifer Schroepfer all placed third, sealing in their spot at the State speech meet. Schroepfer said, “I was really surprised when they didn’t call my name. I was waiting for it. I was really surprised I was in the top three. And I’m glad I made it to State because my sisters did, and now, I am living up to them.” Schroepfer’s category is Extemporaneous Reading. Rasp made it in Drama and Sager in Discussion. Head Coach Lauren Gendron said, “We finished the season strong at sections with a lot of tough competition. It was great to get three speechers to State!” The State meet will be held at the Lakeville North High School on Friday, April 17, and Saturday, April 18. Watch for updates as these students compete!
