Leaping into action
The 2015 Boys Track & Field team is looking to top last year’s second place finish in both the Big 9 conference and their section. They have some spots to fill after graduating a couple of state participants, but they also have two returning state qualifiers,Matt Kingland and Zae Lafaive, both looking to build off last year’s success. The team started the year strong with a second place finish at their first outdoor meet held at Mankato West High School. They hope to carry the momentum into their meet in Stillwater on Friday, April 17th, which is one of the biggest true team scoring events in the state. Senior captain Jacob Zabel said, “Friday is a huge day for us. It’s an opportunity to show the city teams how good Owatonna Track really is.” The team finished in fifth place last year and is looking to beat that. Coach Kevin Stelter said, “There were some real solid performances on Tuesday.” He was referring to the performances in Mankato by many of the athletes, including Jacob Johnson, Matt Kingland and Sam Hunstman. Stelter finished by saying, “I expect those individuals to both improve upon their times and lead the team at Stillwater.” The Huskies will compete in Stillwater at 3:30 p.m. on Friday, April, 17. Their next home meet is Tuesday, April 21 at 4:30 p.m. against Winona and Austin.
