Mariah Dant receives the first place award for her participation in the 5k

The From the Heart race took place Saturday, May 2, at Lake Kohlmier. This is an annual event dedicated to those fighting cancer and their families within the Owatonna community. Many people in the community attended and participated in different ways, whether it be running in the race, helping at the booths or just cheering from the sidelines. Although the amount raised is yet to be determined, it has raised a significant amount for the three families.

There were many great results in this years race. OHS sophomore Mariah Dant took first place for the 5k 1-19 and overall female age group with a time of 22 minutes and 35 seconds. In second place was Owatonna Junior High School 8th grader Sydney Kretlow with a time of 23 minutes and 51 seconds. OJHS 8th grader Emily Rahrick took third place with a time of 23 minutes and 56 seconds.

In first place in the male category for the 5k 1-19 age group was Ryan Henningson from Winona with a time of 19 minutes and 53 seconds. In second place was sophomore Ross Stevensen with a time of 19 minutes and 56 seconds, and in third place, Zander Johnson with a time of 21 minutes and two seconds

For the half marathon, juniors Elena Bueltel and Zoe Kienholz took first and second place. Bueltel ended the half marathon with a time of two hours, six minutes and 11 seconds. Kienholz finished with a time of two hours, ten minutes and 34 seconds. There were no male finishers in this age group.

Mrs. Kristen Andrix of the OHS placed first in the half marathon in her age group with a time of one hour, 49 minutes and 22 seconds. Mrs. Connie Pittmann placed third within her age group with a time of two hours, ten minutes and six seconds.

Volunteer coordinator and Owatonna High School counselor Mrs. Margo McKay said, “It was one of our most successful races ever. There were between 900-1,000 people that participated. It was one of our nicest days weather wise too.”
