A few meets into the season, the Boys Cross Country team is climbing the totem pole. Their most recent meet, the Faribault Invitational on Sept. 11, was a successful one. After a slow start, the boys drastically improved. They ran their best times of the year. Senior Captain Nick Raichle said, “It was a really cool day, which is perfect running, and that is why a lot of people got their best times.” They were led by junior Braydon Kubat’s time of 17:11, senior Nick Raichle’s time of 17:34 and senior Nelson Jourdan’s time of 17:47. The meet consisted of twenty-two boys teams, including a Stillwater team that placed third at state last year. Owatonna finished tenth. Coach Chatelaine said, “It was a big improvement from last year’s finish of fourteenth. We are looking to get back to where we were four years ago when we were a very, very good squad, and we won the meet.” Stealing the show was a stacked Stillwater team that finished first, with all of their runners placing individually in the top fifteen. Owatonna’s JV team, lead by senior captain Ken Hauer’s time of 19:02, finished twelfth overall. Their next meet is hosted by Rochester Mayo on Sept. 17.
