Animated and stop motion movies:
The Nightmare Before Christmas (1993)

The Nightmare Before Christmas is an amazing family movie, and a must watch. This is easily a classic film and can be found on Netflix.
Corpse Bride (2005)

Coraline (2009)
After moving to an old house, Coraline very quickly becomes adventurous. One day, she finds a hidden door that is bricked up. Later that night, Coraline goes back to the door and curiously enters it, finding a new and exciting world.

Live action movies:
The Blair Witch Project (1999) -Suspense
Three film students decide to film a documentary on the legend of the Blair Witch. After getting a lead of where to look, they become lost in a Maryland forest.
This suspenseful film was the first of its kind when it comes to using found footage. More modern films such as Paranormal Activity and Cloverfield somewhat take after it. The Blair Witch Project has a rather slow start but because of the nature of the film and origins, horror fans everywhere should watch it. Plus, this film can be found on Netflix.
V/H/S (2012) -Independent
This film as well as the following two, V/H/S/2 and V/H/S: Viral, are presented as several short scary stories all sent in by different groups and people around the world.
Supporting independent artists is great, and the director of the V/H/S films realizes this. Short stories by a large range of independent artists were selected for the creation of these titles. This is a lesser known title, but still very entertaining. Another upside is V/H/S is on Netflix.
30 Days of Night (2007) -Thriller

Ghostbusters (1984) -Comedy

Ghostbusters is a lighthearted comedy the whole family can enjoy. The jokes are clever, and the actors are wonderful. Ghostbusters is unavailable to stream on Netflix, but can be found at most department stores.
Halloween (1978) -Thriller
After stabbing his fifteen year old sister to death on Halloween night, six year old Michael Myers is institutionalized. Fifteen years later, he breaks out on Halloween’s Eve. Michael is going back to Haddonfield, but the town is not prepared.
This Halloween film is known by many and is easily a classic. Halloween brings immense suspense that will keep you up at night. This version of Halloween is not on Netflix, however others are.
Sinister (2012) -Mystery
Ellison Oswalt, after finding eight home movies that throw his family into a paranormal and horrific situation, must use his true-crime writing experience to help him solve the situation.
Although Sinister uses many old horror cliches, it still brings many new things to the genre with interesting twists. Sinister is not on Netflix.
Whatever movie genre, there is a Halloween film for each person!
