Girls Varsity Soccer: Owatonna vs. Rochester Mayo
They went into the game with confidence, intensity and the ambition to take the win. Thursday, Oct. 10 the Owatonna girls varsity soccer team went against powerhouse Rochester Mayo in the first round of section playoffs. Mayo is not a team to underestimate and the girls did no such thing. Starting the game off confidently, the girls kept on attacking. Both teams were neck and neck, with endless scoring opportunities. Ending the first half with a 0-0 score the girls went in for the halftime talks.
Starting the second half, the Owatonna girls brought it to them. Mayo wasn’t giving up though, they kept on attacking. With 11 minutes 30 seconds left to go of the second half with a score of 0-0 the girls finally put one in. Senior Kaitlin Ptacek scored with an assist by sophomore Arianna Olson, putting the Owatonna girls on the scoreboard with a 1-0 lead. Spirits high and adrenaline rushing, the girls would not end their spree of control. The clock ticking down to zero, fans cheering loudly and the girls walking out with pride, the game ended with a final score of 1-0; sending them into the second round Saturday Oct. 12 at 1 p.m. against Lakeville North. The cost is $5.o0 for students and $7.00 for adults.
